Nostalgia means nothing ever really dies—least of all a horrifying killer doll from the ’80s. And so Chucky has been brought back to life (“life”?) as a Syfy/USA series in which Brad Dourif voices the ginger murder toy himself. And in season two, the show’s teens face yet another existential threat: Catholic school.
Also there’s more than one Chucky?
Following the events of season one, Chucky would very much like to murder some youths, and maybe also his ex. Here’s the summary:
After his diabolical plan to invade America’s children’s hospitals was foiled in season one, Chucky now seeks revenge on those he holds responsible: surviving teens Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson) and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), along with his ex Tiffany, now his sworn enemy. Meanwhile, can “Jevon” make it as a couple in the face of adversity at their new Catholic school, not to mention a brand-new onslaught of terror from the demon doll?
While some might say the watered-down “Losing My Religion” cover is a step too far, the rest of the religious mayhem featured here is perfectly over the top and in campy keeping with the very concept of a goofy-looking deadly doll. I mean, what did you want? A self-serious gritty take? Never.
Chucky premieres October 5th on Syfy and USA.
